I think I have been dreaming of flying for as long as I can remember. I my mid teens got really interested in airplanes and aerodynamics and dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot. I built model airplanes of balsa wood and experimented with different designs. I never became a fighter pilot but I figured the next best thing was to do my military service in the airforce as airplane mechanic. After my time in the airforce I built model airplanes from time to time (usually when being injured from skateboarding).
In 2007 I was really interested in building airplanes that I could fly in my living room. And that escalated as it often does and became a quest to try to make the smallest possible radio controlled airplane. When Fatshark released the first FPV (First Person View) goggle it was a dream come true! I got my first pair of FPV goggles in 2008 and started to fly all kinds of different airplanes.
2008 was also the year I became aware of drones or quadcopters/multicopters as they where more known as at the time. They had been around for a few years but had been really expensive kits. About this time people started to experiment with different ways to achieve quadcopter/multicopter flight with cheaper electronics. I found it exciting to be able be a part of a new era of flight and and became active in various online communities. Some of fy first quadcopters used a gyro from a Nintendo wii motion plus hand control and a arduino. I did all kinds of experiments with different frame configurations, motors, propellers and then there was cameras, antennas for the FPV video. There was a lot to be explored and tested. The development of flight controllers and the code that keep the drones airborne evolved super fast but that was on another level that I never even tried to dabble with.
I saw a potential future business that I wanted explore. I started Aeronautik Hobby as a webshop for FPV and drone parts and building custom heavy lifting photo and video rigs for customers. I soon realised that the big brands where changing the game with off the shelf ready to fly products that was hard to compete with. That made me go back to just building and flying drones for fun again.
